Scottair Swartberg 200

Round 3 - 20/07/2024

The Scottair Swartberg 200 has become a annual event in our racing calendar and is hosted by the Jurassic Park Polo Club.

The loop was 45km run 4 times. It is definitely the most technical event of the season and it is very rough and slow in some places and smooth an fast in others. The track takes you through a diverse system of valleys and mountains making it tricky on the race notes and demanding for the driver.

The terrain it covered included open rolling burnt grass hills, rocky jeep trails that were steep going up and down, fast rally like forest sections and slippery stoney roads. On average most of the terrain is mild speed as it followed the narrow valley roads that were exciting to drive as you had to concentrate 100% of the time with no flat out sections to rest. This is a place where a lot of time can be lost for overshooting corners and the rocks made tire management important. Some sections made you feel like you were in the middle of Lesotho, as some passes were rough with spectacular views. To do well in this terrain you needed a well balance all round car as you just didn’t know what to expect on the first loop out. The event was enjoyed by all the competitors, both novice and seasoned.

After prize giving which was very festive a well attended braai was held by the owners of the Polo Club in their home where most competitors were accommodated. It was a great weekend out racing in the mountains and we welcome every competitor to give this event a bash.
